At Sanford, researchers explored how Theia3D could be used to study movement patterns during ACL recovery research. The workflow enabled more comprehensive biomechanical reporting across research cohorts while reducing data collection and processing time by over 66% compared to traditional marker-based motion capture.
Key Applications

Movement Analysis for Performance
Analyze movement patterns across athlete populations to establish baseline biomechanics and examine changes across training phases. Use standardized movement analysis to compare mechanics over time and support data-informed performance discussions. Objective biomechanical data provides deeper insight into how athletes move during training and competition.

Cognitive Assessment
Evaluate neurological impairments with accurate baselines to monitor treatment effectiveness. Predict and enhance treatment suitability tailored for individual patients.
Utilize 3D motion analysis to perform neuromechanical assessment and gain deeper insights into patient movements.

Functional Assessment & Rehabilitation
Track subtle progress with high-fidelity data that's both repeatable and reproducible.
Assess treatment program effectiveness, and compare to baseline to determine readiness to return to sport. Enhance functional movement assessment and improve rehabilitation with data driven metrics.

Gait Analysis (Research)
Reduce data collection time by up to 66% with zero instrumentation. Participants can move freely in normal clothing while capturing a wide range of gait patterns for biomechanical analysis. Full 3D gait kinematics are computed using ISB standards.
